Companies House director verification: Your next steps

We have written to all clients via email in relation to important new identity verification requirements for company directors, which Companies House will implement in just a few weeks.

From 18 November 2025, anyone setting up, running, owning or controlling a company, as a director or person with significant control (PSC), will need to verify their identity to get a ‘personal code’ from Companies House.

Fundamentally, from 18 November 2025, a personal code will be needed to file company documents at Companies House. Without a personal code, you will not be able to file documents, and we will not be able to do so on your behalf; therefore, if you are a director or shareholder of a limited company, we urge you to act immediately.

As a valued client and company director, we are writing to ensure you are aware of this and understand your next steps.

You have the following options to verify your identity:

1. You can do so independently by creating a Gov.uk One Login on this link Create your GOV.UK One Login or sign in - GOV.UK One Login and downloading the Gov.uk ID check app; or

2. You can partially complete your application online, then take your documents to a Post Office for verification, where a fee may apply; or

3. We can complete the process for you. If you choose this option, we will send you a link and instructions to input your document information and take a selfie. A fee of £55 plus VAT will be charged for this service.

Once you have been successfully verified, Companies House will issue a personal code to you by email. We will need this code to file company documents on your behalf.

Your Companies House personal code will be used to connect your verified identity to Companies House records. This is a legal requirement and will ensure that the correct identity is linked to the roles you hold.

All directors of each company will need to provide their personal codes to file annual confirmation statements.

Companies House will be implementing the change in process requiring a personal code for filing documents from 18 November 2025, so we’d urge you to contact us, letting us know which of the above options you’re proceeding with.
